History of Ashbury Images

Ashbury Images began as a vocational job training program in the basement of our homeless drop-in center in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco.

We started tshirt printing for local businesses and nonprofit agencies and quickly became one of the fastest growing screen printing and embroidery shops in San Francisco. Our screen printing business quickly outgrew the basement of the Oak Street House, and in 1991, we moved to a rented storefront on Ashbury Street, taking the name Ashbury Images. In 1998, we moved into a 3,000-square foot facility and purchased our first automatic press, and in 2007, we moved Ashbury Images to a brand new 11,300-square foot facility at 1661 Tennessee in the Dogpatch neighborhood of Bayview. Our new "grande auto" 14-color press brings our total production capacity to over a million prints a year on a single shift.

Ashbury Images is a vital program run by New Door Ventures, a nonprofit that helps at-risk youth prepare for work and life. For more information on New Door Ventures please visit www.newdoor.org.

As part of a fellow mission-based organization, the Women Build department at Habitat for Humanity International values the opportunity to partner with a likeminded group such as Ashbury Images. It’s gratifying to work alongside another organization that practices what it preaches. Ashbury Images has worked with the Women Build program to create a pricing scheme that has saved our Women Build affiliates over $4,000 so far this year. In Women Build terms, this translates to more families in simple, decent homes.
